Beyond the Baton Participants 2009
Casey Cook, a conductor, composer, and vocal performer, is the Assistant Director of the Tuscon Chamber Artists (AZ). He is also sought-after as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator. Currently pursuing his Doctorate in choral conducting at the University of Arizona, Mr. Cook earned his Master’s in choral conducting from the University of South Florida and his Bachelor’s in music education from Miami University.
Lance Inouye, currently the Music Director and Conductor for the Sarasota youth Opera (FL), is also the Assistant Conductor for the Sarasota Opera and has guest conducted throughout the United States and Russia. Active in contemporary music, Mr. Inouye has conducted world premieres in New York’s Carnegie Hall-Weill Recital Hall.
Joseph Ordaz, currently the Music Director and Conductor of the Mission College Symphony in Santa Clara, CA, is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Other orchestras he has worked with in workshops or rehearsal include the Bakersfield Symphony, Norwalk (CT) Symphony, Peninsula Symphony, and Nova Vista Symphony.
Ena Shin has guest conducted for the Columbia University Wind Ensemble and Princeton University’s American Modern Ensemble. She has conducted in master classes and seminars including Cincinnati Conservatory of Music’s Tchaikovsky Festival, the Conductor’s Retreat at Medomak, and a Conductor’s Guild Worksop.
Thomas Shoebotham has a highly varied musical caeer that includes opera and orchestral conducting, cello and piano performance, and public and private teaching. He is presently the Music Director of the Palo Alto Philharmonic (CA). As a solo cellist and guest conductor, he has performed with many groups in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Ryan Taussig, a conductor, musicologist and educator, currently serves as the Music Director of the Crane School of Music Handbell Choir at SUNY Potsdam.
Chelsea Tipton, in the Fall of 2009, began his tenure as the Music Director of the Symphony of Southeast Texas in Beaumont. Previously, he was the Resident Conductor of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra (OH), Associate Conductor with the Savannah Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Cininnati Symphony Youth Orchestra. Mr. Tipton has held faculty positions at Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University.
Kirk Wilke is the Music Director of the Rappahannock Pops Orchestra in Fredericksburg, VA. In his 10 year tenure, he has taken the orchestra from being an amateur orchestra to a semi-professional orchestra with a huge following. He also conducts Capitol Chamber Orchestra in Alexandria, VA. Mr. Wilke gained international recognition as the first American to conduct China’s Shangdong Symphony Orchestra.
